Over £5.6M awarded to organisations across Scotland in June and July

We are delighted to announce our latest funding recipients, with 167 organisations awarded over £5.6M to support their work to prevent and reduce poverty and trauma across Scotland.

Earlier this year, we announced plans to make changes to the structure of Our Funds to ensure we are maximising the impact of our resources. We paused to new applications on 31st May ahead of our relaunch from the end of September 2024.

As a result of the pause of Our Funds in May, there has been a very significant increase of around 211% in applications, with a particularly significant spike in those to our Large Grants. Over the summer, our team has been working hard to assess those applications, using the same criteria and assessment guidelines as before, and adding further funding meetings to get decisions out to applicants as soon as we could.

Although we are still in our pause period, we have continued to assess applications that we received before the pause and look forward to sharing the details of those final awards shortly. In the meantime, we are pleased to be able to share details of awards made in June and July, with £5.6M awarded to 167 organisations.

As we prepare to re-open on a phased approach towards the end of September, over the coming weeks we will be sharing details of the new look version of Our Funds, including what’s in and out of scope through our themes and key dates for our phased re-opening.

We look forward to sharing those details shortly. In the meantime, you can read our recent updates on why we are Sharpening the Focus of Our Funds and view the changes we have introduced so far.

If you wish to stay up-to-date with our news, please join our mailing list or follow our social channels.

£5,641,500 was awarded to 167 organisations in June and July 2024, with a success rate of 69%. If you would like to receive our award announcements directly to your inbox, please sign up to our mailing list.

Each of the organisations below demonstrated in their application how their work is contributing to the alleviation of poverty and trauma in Scotland.

Award Focus - Article 12

Large Grant - £75,000 over 3 years

"Article in 12 in Scotland is a Scotland wide charity that supports young people’s rights and particularly works with young people from the Gypsy/Traveller community in Scotland.

As our namesake Article 12 of the UNCRC regards the right of children and young people to express their views in all matters affecting them, their perspectives are fundamental to the way we work and that is why we co-produce our work with young people.

We focus on building capacity and confidence and developing participant identified soft skills, core hard skills, awareness of human rights and equality, and health and wellbeing. We seek to close the attainment gap by supporting young Gypsy/Travellers with non-formal education and access to learning.

Our overall aim is to disrupt the generational cycles of poverty and trauma to which the Gypsy/Traveller community has been subjected, creating a level playing field for all of Scotland's children and young people." Lynne Tammi, Honorary Chairperson of Article 12.

Our team says... "A Scottish Government study in 2018 found that young people from the Gypsy/Traveller community are at higher risk of leaving education early, with 50% of Gypsy/ Travellers leaving school at a young age without qualifications which is double the national average, placing those young people at a higher risk of poverty in the future. Article 12 work to address the causes of poverty by providing tailored approaches to each young person, ensuring that their voice is listened to and amplified at every stage which is why their work is a strong fit with our Education Pathways theme. We're delighted to be supporting the work of Article 12 and look forward to learning from their progress." Lorna Wallace, Funding Officer.
