Example Projects under Nurturing Relationships

Below are some examples of previously or recently funded Small and Large Grants which we feel are strongly aligned to our priorities under our Nurturing Relationships theme. We hope these will be helpful in illustrating some of the types of services were are interested in funding.

Please note that although we have anonymised the organisation names in the following examples, each organisation has been previously or recently funded through our Small or Large Grants. 

Priority: Preventative support for families in poverty (including children and their caregivers), to help build and maintain strong family relationships, and reduce the risk of intergenerational trauma.

  • Organisation established to deliver an asset-based model of family support to ensure the best start in life for children who are experiencing complex family challenges. Services include a Family Volunteer Service, Antenatal Support Service, Young Parents’ Service, Early Years Family Practitioner, Early Years Family Support Service, Family Opportunities, Art Therapy and Systemic Family Counselling. They received a Large Grant towards their Systemic Family Counselling Service in May 2023.
  • A family centre supporting the needs of children aged 0-16 years and their families. The focus of their work is to provide holistic support to those family units who are experiencing, or are at risk of, inter-related factors such as poverty, unemployment, poor housing, relationship breakdown, drug and alcohol problems and health related issues. The overall approach is to empower parents to better understand their child's needs and development, and to promote the bond between parents and their children. They received Large Grant towards their running costs in May 2023.
  • A charity that provides a wide range of support to vulnerable individuals and New Scot families including supporting them with finances, refugee status, housing, education, employment and mental health. Key activities include a Playgroup, Support Group, after school tuition, IT & English classes and welcome packs for families arriving. They received a Small Grant  towards their Playgroup costs in September 2023. 

Priority: Whole family support for families (including children and their caregivers) in care, or on the edges of care, to address the impacts of persistent poverty and intergenerational trauma. 

  • A charity delivering evidence-based humane education workshops and activities to vulnerable children and young people to restore, encourage and nurture compassion and empathy, while increasing self-esteem, self-worth and confidence. The organisation provides one to one counselling, alongside group sessions for children and young people, as well as sessions involving children and their caregivers. They received a Small Grant towards salary costs in April 2024.

Priority: Crisis support at the point of family breakdown, including support for women and children experiencing domestic abuse.

  • Family mediation and child-led intensive family support charity, helping with high-risk families going through conflict and separation. Core services include conflict mediation, 1:1 intensive parent coaching, support for the non-resident family member with children, power of play to help develop parental attachment, therapeutic support for children, short courses on parenting apart and a care experienced Children and Young People service. They received a Large Grant towards their running costs in September 2023. 

Priority: Recovery and restorative approaches to address the impacts of childhood trauma, homelessness, substance misuse and/or offending.

  • A charity established to provide community-based rehabilitation to adults who have substance issues and support for their families.  They deliver community rehabilitation to individuals who experience substance misuses via one to one, group, and volunteer support. They also provide residential rehabilitation, auricular acupuncture, and a peer leader volunteering programme. They received a Large Grant towards their Rehabilitation Worker in December 2022. 
  • Charity based in a highly isolated rural area, that was set up to support people and families experiencing drug and alcohol misuse. They provide a wide range of support including mentoring, one to one sessions, group work and support with education, employment, financial matters and mental health and wellbeing. They received a Small Grant towards salary costs in February 2024.
